ResumoThe geographical and linguistic limits of Micronesia do not quite coincide. Micronesian is spoken outside its geographical area and non-Micronesian types are used inside it. Linguistically Western Micronesia shows affinities with Indonesia, Eastern Micronesia with Polynesia, and the central nucleus (Caroline and Marshall Islands) with Melanesia. The structure of Micronesian may be studied in representative types of languages: Palau, Saipan Chamorro, Ponpe, Ebon, and Gilbertese. The resemblances between these in the pronominal category are the only ones which have so far been investigated.
