Resumo

This article describes Index Morganagus, a full‐text index of library‐related electronic serials. It describes why the Index was created and then gives an overview of Harvest, the technology that collects, indexes, and provides access to the serials. The article outlines how the process was automated using the combination of a database application (FileMaker Pro) and various ‘glue’ scripts (both AppleScript and Perl). It provides an analysis of the service's log files which shed light on usage patterns and librarian search behaviour. While the Index may not be satisfying a large need in the library profession, it demonstrates the feasibility of creating similar indexes for other professions where there may be greater need. It also demonstrates how computer technology can empower librarians and provide better, in‐house developed solutions, and in doing so expand the horizon of library services.1
