Resumo

Abstract The interchange reactions in blends composed of poly(ethylene terephthalate) and the poly(hydroxy ether of bisphenol A) have been studied. Differential scanning calorimetry and optical microscopy have been used to analyse the thermal behaviour of the blends. The results obtained indicate that interchange reactions give rise to a progressive homogenization of the initially immiscible blends. On the other hand, calorimetric analysis as well as optical microscopy show a clear decrease in the rate of crystallization of poly(ethylene terephthalate). These results are attributed to the formation of copolymers based on the blend components due to interchange reactions.
