Resumo

The effect of pressure on the crystal structure of a solid AgZn alloy has been investigated. X-ray diffraction measurement employing a diamond-anvil cell has shown that the trigonal ζ phase structure is transformed into the cubic CsCl structure at about 3 GPa with a small, but finite, volume discontinuity. A pressure-temperature phase diagram has been constructed on the basis of the results of X-ray diffraction examination, electrical resistance measurement and differential thermal analysis. Discussion is given on the stability of the ζ phase in AgZn.
