Following the successful negotiation of a contract between the American Medical Association and one of its federation members, the College of American Pathologists (CAP), a new version of the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine began to be published as a cooperative effort in January 1984. The Archives continues to be owned and published by the AMA. All CAP members receive theArchivesas a membership benefit. The quality of paper, covers, and photographs has been improved. Twenty more pages of editorial content were added in each issue with a plan to emphasize laboratory use, systems, computers, information science, quality assurance, and laboratory management in addition to anatomic and clinical pathology of more traditional sorts. With this added distribution, the circulation is now 17,400, making the ARCHIVES the most widely circulated peer-reviewed pathology journal in the world. William W.
