ResumoAbstract The Kaiser-Permanente Medical Information System is a long-term research and development program. Its major objective is the development of a multi-facility computer-based system which will support the medical data requirements of a population of 1,000,000 persons and 1,000 physicians. The strategy employed provides for modular development. The central system, where the computer-stored medical records are maintained, and a satellite pilot medical data system in one facility are discussed. Serial expansion to several hospitals and clinics is anticipated.
