ResumoDielectric constant and loss measurements have been made at frequencies from 5 to 225 MHz. These are in the range to characterize the relaxation in the intermediate solid phase of HBr from the 89°K λ transition to 98° K and, together with earlier data, the relaxation in HI from the 70°K transition to 92°K. The complex dielectric constant is described in both cases by a skewed arc function rather than the symmetric circular arc functions found for the low-temperature phases. The corresponding loss of long-time dipole correlations suggests a more liquidlike behavior. It is further suggested that deviations of the relaxation rates from temperature dependence of Arrhenius form may be explainable in terms of cooperative interaction effects in a disordered phase.
