New coordinates for string fields

By quantizing bosonic string mechanics in harmonic world-sheet coordinates, we obtain a BRST operator whose coordinates include the world-sheet metric. These gauges are covariant under an ISp(2) symmetry which includes not only BRST transformations but also anti-BRST and the Sp(2) which relates them. This symmetry of the gauge-fixed formalism is a subgroup of an OSp(1, 1|2) useful for gauge-covariant free string field theory.
