Abstract D- xylo -Hexos-4-ulose has been synthesised, characterised chromatographically, and methyl α- D - xylo -hexopyranosid-4-ulose has been shown to be stable in neutral aqueous solution, contrary to a previous report. Glycosyl phosphate derivatives are also reported.
