O texto é o resultado parcial da pesquisa sobre a Sociedade dos Pedreiros Livres e a perseguição dos seus membros no século XVIII pelo Santo Oficio. São analisadas as disputas do poder tanto pela maçonaria como pela Igreja Católica, a doutrina, os ritos e origem dos pedreiros livres, tendo como pano de fundo os depoimentos ao Tribunal da Fé pelo francês Thomas Bruslé e o brasileiro tejucano José Joaquim Vieira Couto. AbstractThe text is a partial result of the research about the Free Mason Society and the persecution of its members in the eighteenth century by the Holy Office. It analyzes the disputes of power by both the Freemasonry and the Catholic Church, the doctrine, rites and origins of the freemasons, having as a background the statements given to the Faith Tribunal by the frenchman Thomas Brusle and the brazilian tejucano Joaquim José Vieira Couto.Keywords: Freemasonry; Holy Office; heresy; Portugal; Licentiousness.
