ResumoHaving attended the presentation by Taylor et al, given at the British Institute of Radiology' s annual meeting of May 1993, which discussed the use of the Amplatz gooseneck snare [1], we would like to describe a method for repositioning Hickman lines which may be useful when the usual techniques are unsuccessful. In many centres Hickman lines are still placed by physicians and surgeons without the use of screening facilities. From time to time the tip of the line does not take the expected route and instead of lying in the distal superior vena cava or right atrium comes to lie in the brachiocephalic or the internal jugular vein.
