It was found that it is possible to obtain hardboard of acceptable properties from the mechanically pulped rachises (the spines or axes) of date palm leaves. Pretreatment of the raw material with alkali before mechanical defiberisation resulted in improvement of the obtained hardboard properties. The quality of hardboard depends on the pretreatment conditions.
