Abstract On 13 February 1993 Ipswich Borough Council Museums’ highly acclaimed exhibition “From the Mummy's Tomb” was opened to the public, and the Museums’ extensive and important collection of Egyptology went on view for the first time in over fifteen years. One of the objects prepared for display in the exhibition was a fragmentary Egyptian mummy shroud of the 2nd‐4th century AD. The conservation challenge presented by this piece was to conserve and mount for display an extremely fragmentary and fragile object. The short time‐scale available for the work and budget limitations set up interesting constraints on possible treatment options. A non‐intrusive, fully reversible conservation approach was taken in order to provide an ethical solution to the problems faced.
