ResumoThe constitutive heterochromatin of the Indian muntjac (Muntiacus muntjak) was examined following digestion with various restriction endonucleases (AluI, HaeIII, HinfI, and MboI), as well as by selective fluorescence staining with distamycin A plus 4'-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole. Distinct areas within the C-bands were found to have characteristic staining patterns which were more conspicuous in the sex chromosomes. Two dot-like structures resistant to AluI were found in the X and Y1 chromosomes in the same position as the nucleolus organizer regions.
