ResumoAbstract A microcomputer‐based monitoring and data analysis system has been used to study the electric organ discharges (EOD) of the African elephant fish Gnathonemus (family Mormyridae) to produce counts of pulses per minute at different temperatures. A significantly reduced rate and variability in EOD is recorded in the two species studied (G. petersi and G. curvirostris) when temperature is lowered below the ambient of 27° C. Keywords: Electric organ activity Gnathonemus temperature
