Abstract Many managers have made extensive attempts to implement an MRP system but have often been disappointed with the results. Ignoring capacity constraints and the inability to cope with the dynamics of shop floor activities are amongs several reasons. This paper illustrates a control procedure, based on an iterative application of an LP formulation, which synchronises a master production schedule with the realities of production constraints.
