Pasteurella multocida est un germe classiquement responsable d'infections locales lors de morsures animales. Il peut être également en cause dans les méningites du nourrisson. Un nourrisson âgé de 3 mois a été hospitalisé dans un tableau clinique associant une méningite bactérienne et une ostéite de hanche. Pasteurella multocida a été mise en évidence sur la culture du liquide céphalorachidien, dans les hémocultures et dans le liquide de ponction articulaire. Le mode de transmission retenu a été le léchage par le chien de la famille. Malgré des complications neurologiques initiales, l'évolution clinique a été favorable après 3 semaines d'antibiothérapie intraveineuse, suivie d'un relais per os pendant 3 mois. Les méningites à Pasteurella multocida sont rares chez le nourrisson ; elles peuvent être associées à des ostéites ou à des arthrites septiques avec septicémie. La contamination ne nécessite pas toujours un traumatisme animal. Pasteurella multocida is usually responsible for local infections occurring after animal bites. It can also be responsible for meningitis in infants. A three-month old infant was admitted to hospital with a diagnosis of bacterial meningitis and hip osteitis. Cultures of cerebrospinal fluid, blood and joint liquid were positive to Pasteurella multocida. Licking from the family dog was the transmission mode in this case. Despite initial neurological complications, clinical evolution was favourable after three weeks of intravenous antibiotic therapy followed by an oral administration for three months. Pasteurella multocida meningitis is rare in infants. It can be associated with arthritis, osteitis and septicaemia. Besides animal bites, licking is also a mode of contamination.
