Key Points Platelet-activating, but not nonactivating, human HIT antibodies bind to and activate PF4-treated platelets. Activating antibodies may recognize subtle conformational changes induced in PF4 by chondroitin-4-sulfate, the major platelet glycosaminoglycan.
