ResumoConsidering the increasing number of dams that are ageing, it is important to worry about the safety of these structures and the security of the population that could be affected by the failure of one of them. Computer-assisted engineering allows for the development of more complete computational methods and analysis to assist in these evaluations, and for the establishment of local emergency procedures. Numerical cartography, site data base and interpolation by dual kriging are some of the techniques studied in this paper in order to develop a procedure to determine flooded areas and to monitor their evolution during the rupture of dams. This procedure is applied to a dam built in 1976 upstream of the city of Granby, in Québec. Key words: dam, rupture, flood, numerical cartography, kriging. [Journal translation]
