Resumo Este artigo discute como a Idade Media representada no filme O Nome da Rosa (Der Name Der Rose, Jean-Jacques Annaud, 1986) constitui um importante meio para o ensino de Historia Medieval nas escolas. Ao mesmo tempo em que constroi e reforca estereotipos e preconceitos sobre a Idade Media, o cinema pode ser fonte privilegiada de desconstrucao desses estigmas, de aprendizagem e conhecimento na area de Historia, considerando as especificidades da linguagem cinematografica e as possibilidades interpretativas e poeticas proprias da liberdade inerente a setima arte. Abstract This article discusses how the Middle Age depicted in the film The Name of the Rose (Der Name Der Rose, Jean-Jacques Annaud, 1986) is an important means to teach Medieval History at schools. At the same time that it builds and reinforces stereotypes and prejudices about the Middle Age, the movies can serve as privileged source to de-construct these stigmas, enabling the learning of and knowledge about History, considering the specificities of the movies’ language and the interpretative and poetic possibilities ensuing from the freedom inherent to the Seventh Art.
