Resumo

Abstract 1. 1. Anti-galactan precipitins in the haemolymph from different Tridacnids, Tridacna maxima and Tridacna gigas , were compared by various serological methods. 2. 2. A mixture of galactans from the snail Achatina fulica revealed striking differences between the anti-galactans from both haemolymph fluids. 3. 3. In the haemolymph of Tridacna maxima one strong anti-galactan can be detected, whereas in the haemolymph of Tridacna gigas two other anti-galactans have been found. 4. 4. These two anti-galactans from Tridacna gigas show an interesting serological relationship to the anti-galactans of the sponge Axinella polypoides . 5. 5. It is suggested that these anti-galactans may play a role in the symbiosis with galactan-containing algae.
