Radiology reports are the product of our work as radiologists. Creating an optimal radiology reporting practice requires detailed attention to many aspects of how radiologists (should) create value and contribute to patient care. I find it most useful to avoid talking about information technology products first and instead define the optimum reporting functions we need (only at a very high level in the context of this column) to help improve our contribution to patient care and then discuss the status of technology solutions in addressing the needed functionality.
