Resumo

Atomic and crystal structure and physical and chemical constants of 98 to 99% pure rare earths were studied. Electric magnetic, optical, mechanical, and nuclear properties of rare earths are surveyed at low and high temperatures and at ordinary and high pressures. Constitution and phase diagrams are analyzed, and reactions between the rare earth metals and reactions with other elements are discussed. The special properties and applications of rare earths as superconductors, semiconductors, ferromagnetics, cathode materials, neutron absorbers, catalyst, and luminophors are evaluated.
