ResumoM arginal breakdown and discoloration have often been cited as major problems associated with toothcolored restorative materials. Studies have substantiated the potential for composite resin restorations to stain. A clinical study indicated a change in color match in approximately 60% of composite restorations over a 2-year period.’ In a laboratory study coffee and soy sauce have also been shown to stain composite resin to a significantly greater degree than tea or cola beverages.* This study determined if a single application of various stannous fluoride preparations stains or discolors composite and microfilled resin restorative materials.
