Resumo

The adsorption and oxidation of butene on vanadium oxides/titania prepared by gas-phase and impregnation methods was studied by IR spectroscopy and the microcatalytic method. These catalysts with low vanadium loadings show high selectivities towards furan formation, while those with high vanadium loadings show high selectivities towards acetaldehyde and acetic acid. The formation of a dihydrofuran-like intermediate before the oxidation of butene to furan is proposed. Formation of acetaldehyde and acetic acid is attributed to the presence of Brønsted acidity.
