ResumoTo the Editor. — I read with great interest the article by Vidt et al entitled "A Safe Peritoneal Access Device for Repeated Peritoneal Dialysis" ( 214 :2293, 1970), and would like to relay the work that we have been doing at the University of Minnesota with a chronic peritoneal dialysis access device. They have gained repeated access safely by the instillation of a Teflon rod through the peritoneal wall to create a fistulous tract for the peritoneal catheter to be placed. We have approached the problem for the same reasons, but have derived a different technique using a mushroom-shaped, hollow silicone rubber reservoir with a stainless steel disk, as in Fig 1. The dome of the mushroom-shaped reservoir is of a thick (3 mm) 90 durometer surgical grade silicone rubber and allows for multiple repeated functions with self-sealing, much as a self-sealing inner tube functions.
