Resumo

1. Two sets of extensor and two sets of flexor muscles at the pereiopod base of Ligia oceanica provide most of the locomotory effort. 2. The segments of the endopodite have only a modifying influence on the precise position of the limb and evidently do not contribute much to the effective locomotory stroke. 3. Stepping pattern is basically a metachronal rhythm. The gait of the animal does not alter at different walking speeds.
