Multi-Criteria Decision Making

A computer mathematical model developed to guide regional land-use planning in Portugal was introduced in this paper. The model determines the land-use mixes optimizing a pre-defined multi-objective function, including economic and ecologic variables, and defines control strategies necessary to achieve the optimal mixes at a given point in time. It is essentially based on heuristics, network theoretic concepts, dynamic simulation and multi-objective programming. The incorporation of logic programming is one of the major improvements currently being sought.
