Abstract The photolytic decomposition of U(BH 4 ) 4 vapour by the action of 4.8 eV (253.5 nm) U.V. photons has been shown to occur. The quantum yield of diborane, B 2 H 6 , one of the decomposition products, has been determined and the yield for U(BH 4 ) 4 decomposition inferred. No decomposition by photolysis, using continuous wave (C.W.) lasers operating in the visible and infrared, could be detected.
