ResumoHyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic coma developed in a patient with diabetes mellitus. Essential hypertension followed the addition of chlorthalidone to his usual medication. Profound hyponatremia, sustained insulin-resistant hyperglycemia, and hyperuricemia were atypical findings attributed to the pharmacologic properties of chlorthalidone.
