ResumoThis article surveys the techniques and standards for compression of full-motion video. Two standards and related techniques are described and evaluated: p × 64 (or H.261) standards for video-based communications and MPEG standard for intensive applications of full-motion video, such as interactive multimedia. Both techniques use the combination of DCT-based intraframe compression and predictive interframe coding based on motion vector estimation. The techniques for motion vector estimation are analyzed in the paper as well.
