Resumo

The small subunit (S) of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase from Zea mays is coded by a multi-gene family and expressed as a mixture of polypeptides. Three isoforms of this mixture can be separated by high performance liquid chromatography on reversed phase. The two major components—isoform 1 and isoform 2—have been analyzed by tryptic digestion and selected peptides characterized by mass spectrometry and chemical sequencing. Evidence is obtained that the polypeptides differ in their primary structure.
