Resumo

The foundation of the colony of Caesaraugusta takes place during the imperial policy earned out by Augustus. A most controversial subject amongst historians has been the date of its foundation, which has received many different proposals. Each proposal involves the revision of a number of facts. The most widely supported theory nowadays is that Caesaraugusta was founded in the year 15 B.C., an idea which affects the historical character and several aspects of the issues. Its coins give clear proofs of the relationship between Caesaraugusta and some specific legions, i.e. IIII, VI and X. This work presents the key numismatic document in order to understand the role of this colony with regard to the army settled in the north-west of Spain.
