Resumo

The revelation that Billie Jean King had engaged in a love affair with her former secretary, Marilyn Barnett, damaged King's role as a prestigious, celebrated persona. King realized that her contemporaries would want a personal response to the circumstance, a response which could justify her conduct. In addition to King's own apologia, two other crucial sources which chose to provide support were her peers and the media. The essay examines the rhetorical roles of the three parties.
