ResumoAbstract Luminescence data of heavily doped CdS:In crystals at various exciation densities are presented. The spectra are compared to theoretical calculations, which are based upon the assumption of indirect band‐to‐band transitions. At low excitation density some highly self‐compensated samples exhibit an enhanced luminescence at energies around 2.45 cV. This is due to conduction band acceptor transitions, which are easily saturable. Samples of intermediate In concentration show a narrow‐band highexcitation line, which is attributed to an EHP recombination. The temperature‐dependent behavior of this line indicates the occurrence of optical gain in these samples.
