ResumoAbstract Israel occupies a pivotal position in the Palaearctic Region from the standpoint of zoogeography, being strongly influenced by faunal elements from Asia and Africa. The Canacidae of Israel also reflect this phenomenon, although only two species are known to occur there: one species, C. salonitana Strobl, is typically Mediterranean, the other, Nocticanaci sinaiensis n.sp., represents the Indo-Pacific region. The genus Canace, s.str., is reviewed, with one new species, C. actites, from the Canary and Madeira Islands. All species considered are keyed and figured.
