ResumoA water-soluble β-cyclodextrin bearing seven naphthoate chromophores forms a very stable 1:1 inclusion complex (shown right) with a merocyanine dye, which mimics the antenna effect in photosynthetic units. The energy transfer from the naphthoate chromophores to the merocyanine is shown to take place with 100 % efficiency.
