ResumoThe phenomenon of Ostwald ripening, where large droplets in a supersaturated solution grow at the expense of small droplets, was theoretically explained by Lifshitz and Slyozov. Modern theories provide extensions of this classic work to the situation where the volume fraction of the phase appearing as droplets is appreciable. This has been done by perturbation expansions, mean-field theory, and numerical methods. Herein, those recent developments are reviewed.
