Resumo

The name of Francesco Redi is well known among toxinologists, at least from the Redi Prize, the highest recognition the International Society on Toxinology awards for outstanding merit in this field. Most of us know that Francesco Redi was a physician, and that he discovered the difference between venomous and non-venomous vipers. But this is only part of Francesco Redi's personality. As the 300th anniversary of his death is 2 years ahead, and as the 11th European Symposium of the IST on Animal, Plant and Microbial Toxins was held in Redi's birthplace, Arezzo, it is worthwhile to mention this occasion in honour of Francesco Redi.
