Resumo

The experiment was conducted at the Laboratorio de Forragens e Pastagem, at Juvino Oliveira Campus of Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia-UESB, Itapetinga, BA, Brazil, in order to evaluate the effect of ammoniation on the nitrogened composition of three tropical grasses. The grasses used were: Brachiaria decumbens, Panicum maximum and Pennisetum purpureum which were ensiled without treatment or with 5 percent of urea (based on DM). The experimental design employed was completely randomised in a 3x2 factorial scheme, being three grasses and two treatments (0 and 5 percent urea) with four repetitions. The application of urea increased the contents of total nitrogen (TN), neutral detergent insoluble nitrogen (NDIN), acid detergent insoluble nitrogen (ADIN), NDIN-ADIN ammonia nitrogen total nitrogen relation(N-NH3/TN) and decreased the ADIN to total nitrogen relation (ADIN/TN).The ammoniation did not alter NDIN/TN relation of Brachiaria decumbens and Panicum maximum grasses. Relative to NDIN-ADIN/TN it was verified effect only to Brachiaria decumbens
