ResumoIN A PKEVIOUS report (Rothchild and Fraps, 1944) we showedthat the time of normal lay of the hen2s egg appeared to be under theimmediate control of the ruptured follicle from which the egg originated. The salient points in this study were as follows: lay of the eggoccurred at the normal time in the presence of the ruptured folliclewhether the next maturing follicle was excised or not, but was usuallydelayed for one or more days in the absence of the rupturedfollicle. Some evidence also indicated that the maturing follicle, at orabout the time of its ovulation, participated in this control. Severalhens which laid their eggs at the expected normal time, but in theabsence of the ruptured follicle, did so in close association with ovulationof a maturing follicle, and of the 31 birds reported on in thisstudy which held their eggs following removal of the ruptured follicle,14 laid their eggs, after varying periods of delay, concomitantlywith the first ovulation which occurred following operation.
