Silica particles with mesostructured interiors and diameters as small as 15 nm can be synthesized as can organo-silica derivatives with chemically functionalized mesopores. Preliminary insights into the mechanism of growth of these materials are also gained. References 1 G. A. Ozin, Adv. Mater. 1992, 4, 612. 2 J. H. Fendler, F. C. Meldrum, Adv. Mater. 1995, 7, 607. 3 C.
