ResumoThe purpose of this study is twofold: first, to analyse the changing policies of the French Protectorate authorities in regard to aliyah from 1949 when the French tolerated this process, until 1956 when the newly independent Moroccan government curtailed it; and secondly, to examine the reactions to and initiatives taken toward this mass movement on the part of several international Jewish organizations active in Morocco between 1948 and 1956. These groups were: the Alliance Israelite Universelle (AIU), the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJDC), the World Jewish Congress (WJC), and the American Jewish Committee (AJC).
