ResumoLibrarians traditionally have provided passive or reactive levels of service in academic libraries.This paper proposes that librarians assume a proactive role in the research process and that this can be accomplished through understanding research in the information transfer process and the role of the researcher.The librarian can and should be a key player in the research process.The role of the researcher and a proposed role for the academic librarian are outlined.
