Resumo

The pyrolysis of acetylene-argon mixtures has been investigated in the temperature range 1400° to 2500° K using shock wave heating. Time resolved emission and absorption spectra, measurements of reflected shock velocities, and analysis of the products of the reaction have been used to follow the rate of loss of acetylene. The average activation energy over the temperature range from 600° to 2500° K is approximately 39 kcal mole and there is evidence that the same mechanism is dominant over the whole range.
