ResumoThis essay begins with a discussion of the US commercial peak for the Kinks during their years with Arista (1976–85), before discussing their disastrous switch to MCA Records and one of the Kinks' commercial low points. While the essay focuses on Think Visual (1986), their first album with MCA, the essay discusses the Kinks' use of video, the tension within the band, Ray Davies's Davies, Ray. 1994. X‐Ray: The Unauthorized Autobiography, Woodstock, NY: Overlook Press. [Google Scholar] depressed mindset in the mid 1980s, and, most of all, Davies's disdain for the record industry and, in general, corporate dominance. The article sees Think Visual as a bridge between earlier works like “Lola versus Powerman” and the “Moneygoround” (1970) and X‐Ray (1994), Davies's “unauthorized autobiography.”
