Resumo

Determination of absolute oscillator strengths from lifetime data would be of value in the quantitative interpretation of astrophysical spectra. A survey of ƒ-values needed for solar abundance calculations will be presented. If the lifetime of a level is known, absolute ƒ-values can be determined by measurement of the relative intensities of the lines from that level. The details of such relative intensity measurements will be discussed with emphasis on the requirements for the source and on the calibration of the relative detection efficiency of the spectrometer.
