Resumo

The detection sensitivity of photoacoustic sensors depends to a great extent on the design of the acoustical cell. It can be considerably improved by taking advantage of cell resonances, i.e., the acoustical eigenmodes of the measuring chamber. In this paper, numerical investigations of various properties of photoacoustic cells are presented. The evaluation of the signal strength is based on a finite element analysis and an expansion of the pressure field into acoustical eigenmodes. The investigations include laser parameters, cell geometry and the influence of the gas concentration on the signal strength.
