ResumoComposite plating of nickel with various ceramic particles was carried out using an ethanol based nickel bath. The effects of particle loading, current density and the water content of the bath on the particle codeposition were studied. The anti-wear performance of these coatings was studied under dry sliding condition in air at room temperature. In the present study, particle free as well as the particle incorporated coatings from the ethanol bath exhibited a better anti-wear performance than the corresponding coatings from the Watts plating bath.
