ResumoMy wife survived a 12-hour operation to remove a brain tumour. She remained in hospital for five weeks, during which I visited her every day. I smiled and tried to stop her becoming ‘stir crazy’ with bad jokes and news from beyond the ward entrance. I did not realise it at the time, but I was gradually succumbing to depression.
